As far as I remember, ESI (Extended Systems Inc ?) was selling Status3000
cards which would fit in old LaserJet 4, 4Si, etc. but not sure those or
equivalent are still available.  HP serial port definitely doesn't support
"status checking" so term type 18 is only one available.  Your termtype 99
is probably a "variant" of TT18...

Also, question may sound stupid but as far as I remember, the "N" in 8100N
stands for "Network" so your printer has a network card.  Why don't you just
apply most recent network spooler patches on your system and then print over
network ???
