Creating an Allbase View converting data types...

I saw a post recently in which someone had created an Allbase View (on an
attached TurboImage dataset I seem to remember) which converted item types
using the "Cast" Operator.

Basically, I need to do this, converting CCYYMMDD fields (stored as char(8)) to
Allbase Date format to give our users some nice stuff to play with using
MS-Access and ODBC..

Can anybody tell me how to do this?
