I agree with Jeff that the current situation is not acceptable as there are
many programs which cannot take advantage of DDX, and which *will not* be
modified for one reason or another.
 
I agree with Chris that a DBUTIL option for the database is exactly the
right way to solve the problem to make everybody happy.
