Hello 3000-l and sig-java readers...

I didn't get any responses to my last message (even though
it got posted twice to hp3000-l), so I'll try again....

When we last left this intrepid network person (anybody
know about EIGRP routing protocol? :)), he was trying to
get java working on the HP 3000 on the weekends....

When I run java without SM capability, I get the following message:
:
:/usr/local/java/latest/bin/PA-RISC/green_threads/java
The user lacks the ability to traverse through a directory in the specified
path. (FILE SYSTEM ERROR -180)
File System message 180
HPFOPEN failed. (LDRERR 56)
Native mode loader message 56
Unable to load program to be run. (CIERR 625)
:
:
So I thought I would try to reproduce the problem.

I took another program and placed it in the same directory as
../java. I also copied the ACDs from .../java and changed the
owner of the file to be the same as .../java (MANAGER.SYS).

And that program worked fine:

:/usr/local/java/latest/bin/PA-RISC/green_threads/dosver

VCS/3000 Version Report. Release 7.2.2
File Name:
No file name. Will terminate.
:
:
At one time, I thought the problem might be with a file that
../java was trying to open, but the message says that the
program is unable to load, so I think that the message is
referring to .../java.

Any ideas?

Thanks

/alan
