Your 700/9X terminal should be producing ASCII. It may be simply
confused. To reset the terminal to defaults (flushing it's battery
backed non-volatile memory) hold down the letter D on the keyboard
as you power on the terminal. You should get a message on the screen
telling you that default config is being used. You may then configure
the terminal to fit your application using softkeys much like the
239X terminal that you mentioned.
