A number of people pointed out various pros/cons of command files versus
UDCs.

Here's one more...

A UDC is more efficient (if you don't count logon cost) than a command
file.

I did a test with a UDC and a command file, both of which have only
a single line "comment".

Calling the UDC 10 times took           79 CPU,  79 elapsed millisecs
Calling the command file 10 times took 153 CPU, 158 elapsed millisecs

So, about 74 milliseconds overhead per command file, roughly (on a 3000/968).
