Maybe this is a Y2K problem.

A few months ago Amex started offering Flex Pay for their Corporate Cards,
this meant you could float a balance. Somehow I ended up on this program
and after the first month we started requesting to be taken off. Here's
how it works, there is no due date on your bill, so at some arbitrary point
in time the Business Finance division of Amex will pay your bill and then
start charging you interest. However they never send you a bill, so you
have no option to pay it off. After spending an hour or so on hold with
them we finally got it the option removed from our account (this was after
repeated written and faxed requests). This was only after much arguing
because they wanted a letter sent to them with a payoff amount.

Thinking all was good in the world finally we got our bill from Amex the
other day, and there was a suprise $15,000 charge from Business Finance.
Called Amex and got right through, but guess what, Amex doesn't have any
access or control over Business Finance, even though it's a feature they
offer as if it's part of their company. Apparently they have gotten many
complaints. My only option was to spend another hour on hold waiting to
get a hold of Business Finance.

Well after they researched the situation, this is the good part, their
system people explained that the charge was put on our account in error, it
was actually supposed to go to another account whose number was very
similar to ours. Now aren't 50% of their numbers similar to the other 50%?
This is the lamest excuse I've ever heard in my life from a company like
Amex.

Anyway, we are cancelling our Amex accounts.
