Needing to Enable Plain Text Passwords on more machines than I wanted to go
to (for access to our SAMBA/iX shares), I exported the key from my registry,
renamed it EnablePlainTextPassword.reg, put it out in our shared area, and
emailed our developers a file protocol link to it, with instructions to
launch it to Merge it into their registry, which is the default for .regs.
For some strange reason, not everyone here was sure they wanted to do this
without understanding what it would do, and one of the suits here asked some
very specific questions. Members of this list helped tremendously with my
request for an explanation of what this key does.

After following the manual instructions, you can export just this key to
create a .reg, or cut and paste the following (distribution is up to your
norms, although I can offer my $.02 offlist if it would help):

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Rdr\Parameters]
"EnablePlainTextPassword"=dword:00000001
