The software used on our 927LX was originally written in the late 70's,
early 80's. Originally, the
software was written by a Service Bureau (remember that term?) that I worked
for. The software
ran on a Series III and gradually migrated to a Series 48 over many years.
Then our company
purchased the service bureau when it went out of business and I helped
convert them to the
927LX box from the 48 about 5 years ago. Most of that software still ran in
compatibility mode
up until the Y2K project, when I had an excuse to convert it all to native
mode. Many programs
are virtually unchanged and the company is happy with their software and
their HP3000.
I did note that the 927LX is slated to go off support in April, 2002. But
that is subject to change
I'm sure. We will upgrade to a newer HP3000 ... if we need to.
