After backing up your registry file, point to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | System | CurrentControlSet | Services | VxD | VNETSETUP
then:
Add a new DWORD value "EnablePlainTextPassword" and set it to "1".
IIRC, you only have to do this on Win98; Win95 doesn't encrypt passwords.
The procedure is a little different on NT, but I've forgotten you have to do
to get NT to send a plain-text password.
