I thought that was made available on a recently GR'd 5.5 patch, but I don't
recall the ID.

Donna waxes poetic about support costs:

For peripherals that are installed INSIDE the SPU cabinet, I
can (perhaps) grant that there might be a logical argument to
be made for higher support charges for said items installed
in an HP 3000.... but for *external* devices such as discs in
separate sub-system cabinets with their own power supply,
I am in full agreement with Donna's above sentiments....

"Creative" system management at its best... ;-)

Which reminds me of something I may have mentioned on the
list long ago; if so, please pardon repetition: For peripherals
in separate cabinets, it's not only on support charges where an
alert manager.sys can save a few bucks: When I bought the
two HP DLT4000 drives that have been on our 959KS/200 for
a year or more now, I found out that purchase price for those
DLT's using the HP-UX part number was considerably cheaper
than the cost using the MPE part number; seem to recall the
delta was ~ $700-$800 per drive (I could be off a bit on that).

Anyway, our 3000 sales contact at the HP Federal Business
Center in MD was telling me we should order the DLT's under
the more expensive HP 3000 part number... but I tracked down
an HP DLT tech support person and he told me there was no
technical difference between the two "versions" of DLT4000.
.... took his word for it; saved the $1800 or whatever it was...

.... now what we *really* need is an updated DLT driver for the
3000, to give us DLT fast-search capability.... anybody know
if that is "coming soon" ??...
