Birket after me:

Actually, that is what I meant to convey; I can see now that
I could have been a little more precise: When I said "The
32-bit driver part of this product for Image access ONLY will be
bundled by HP and should be available in ~ a couple months",
I guess I should have said "Image/SQL" or "via SQL".. Anyway,
what you said is what I meant. :-)

Just want to be sure we are all clear on this: Are you
saying that users that get ONLY your ODBCLink(tm)
option that HP is going to bundle WILL be able to fully
access the data in MPE and KSAM files (not just the
file definitions), in addition to IMAGE, IF they also have
HP's DICT/3000 ?? If that is true, then this is a major
expansion to the HP 32-bit ODBC enhancement for
those users who have DICT/3000. Remember that
after the bundled 32-bit ODBC driver, the highest-
rated enhancement request on the 1996 SIGIMAGE
list was "Extend Image/SQL data access to include
MPE and KSAM files" (read that as "provided by HP");
Plus I believe a majority of users are looking for CLIENT
ODBC access to MPE and KSAM files; not necessarily
full integration with ALLBASE (i.e.: the ability to
ATTACH MPE and KSAM files to a DBE).

Anyway, prior to your message, I was clearly under the
impression that the 32-bit ODBC HP was going to bundle
would allow only IMAGE access; NOT MPE & KSAM...

I believe quite a few COBOL users in addition to RAPID
users have DICT/3000, so the answer to this question
may be of fairly general interest.... Enquiring minds want
to know....

thanks,

Ken Sletten
