I too was unable to find any reference to the 3000 in HP's 1997 annual
report. Even in the 12 separate customer profiles, there was plenty of UX
and NT touted, but no MPE. See for yourselves at
http://www.hp.com/financials/97annrep/intro.html

"The voice of the customer" my eye! More like "The voice of what we suspect
the shareholder wants to hear"!

For comparison, I looked at IBM's 96 annual report (the 97 report doesn't
seem to be out yet) at http://www.ibm.com/AnnualReport/1996/htmljs/ and I
did find one reference to the AS/400 - at
http://www.ibm.com/AnnualReport/1996/htmljs/FinancialReport/ManagementDiscus
sion/HardwareSales.html

Another idle observation: from the top-level www.hp.com page, you have to go
three clicks deep before seeing any mention of the HP3000 (Business & Tech,
Enterprise, and Business (again)). From www.ibm.com, you can see an AS/400
in two clicks (Products/Servers).
