Since I first made the inquiry I've been playing around with FTP on our
systems and I think I've gotten a better understanding of the command and
its usage. The stumbling block, for me, was the lack of an FTP/iX manual
and the terseness of the 'help site' command:
ftp> HELP SITE
SITE line-to-send
Send a site-specific command to the remote server.
Connecting to another MPE/iX system and typing 'remotehelp site' or typing
in the local system 'site help', as I found out later, one gets more info
on the command's syntax:
ftp> remotehelp site
214 Syntax: SITE <sp> HELP | MPE/iX | BUILDPARMS file-name | USER_LABELS
file-name [ <number> ] | STREAM file-name
Then I just tried each option as shown below:
ftp> site stream jt
200 STREAM command ok.
ftp> FROM/J3180 MGR.SECRETS/"FTP submitted job test is done"
The above streamed a test job!! Could be used to launch a job that depends
on data that will be placed there by another host.
ftp> site MPE/iX
200 MPE/iX command ok.
I guess the above can be used to verify that the host is an MPE/iX cpu.
ftp> site buildparms jt
213 "JT": REC=-88,53,F,ASCII;DISC=3,2
The above returns the file information for space allocation?
ftp> site user_labels scrtflib.source
213 "SCRTFLIB.SOURCE": 7
The above returns the number of user file labels in the file.
I hope the above helps some people.
