and this is the beauty of leveraging what we know about a superior (but aging)
dbms onto (into?) newer technology. we *know* how to make good efficient
databases (and i like to think that large portions of the rest of the world
don't :-) because we started with a good foundation. that knowledge, that
expertise is worth more than a dozen oracle dba's. i'll be the first to admit
getting from here (image/cobol/vplus) to there (postgre/jdbc/java) is a
significant challenge -- but that's never slowed us down before.
