I was afraid so, and before my colleagues in the Response Centers
worldwide get bombarded with calls, I take the risk of answering
them hopefully w/o breaking the rules.

Not that non-disclosure would make any sense after the simple
facts that HP made an error and shipped the full product to all
customers (regardless of their contracts) has become evident and
reported by multiple sources, and even in the HP Advisor and the
Communicator.

As a legal disclaimer, no one should use the following to
work around the rules of licensing.

The patch really works together with one of the STORXL5#'s on
your Express 2 subsys tapes.

Customers that are "licensed" users of either TurboSTORE/iX II or 7x24,
receive an Express 2 subsys tape with either STORXL51 or STORXL52,
customers that have not bought either product (or have a non-uptodate
contract) will not have this new XLs and will not get a new STORXL5#.

I suggest you to "reality-check" this subsys tape, with what you think
you rightfully should have (just as you should do when you receive any
update SUBSYS tape for a new OS version).

_If_ one installs MPEJXD4, the validation of TurboStore features is then
done through the new XLs (after July 15th); if you do not have them
restored by 07/15/97, then you will not be able to use any Turbostore
features.

Be aware, that any STORE related patch on 5.5 will include MPEJXD4.

I suppose this should read FOS = Fundamental Operating System, i.e.
"vanilla".

Not sure, why they were put in USL rather than UXL, but usually the UXL
group
holds library pieces that are placed into XL.PUB.SYS. It may simlpy be
a convention, and has no technical meaning for the described RESTORE &
Copy procedure.

Hope this clears the confusion,

Goetz.
