Hi Craig

Ok thanks. I feared that the device did not match the interface.

I am not a master on interfaces.

Given that I have Ultra Wide interface and a Ultra SE (narrow) SCSI what device would I then need for backup when DDS is not the option?

I don’t believe that I can put more interfaces in the server.

Venlige hilsner/Best regards

Good Morning Troben, from the other side of the world.

You are trying to hook up a Fast Wide SCSI device to an Ultrawide interface.

The C6378A can only connect to a HVD Fast Wide SCSI interface (A4800A SCSI card comes to mind).

Remember!, The A-class does not support Dual-Head cards, so your only option is A4800A

Subject: DLT8000 on a A-Class HP3000

Hi folks

Our client is running a Series e3000/A400-100-15 running C.75.00.

Until now they have done the backup on DDS. Lately they had failure on the DDS drive and we have realized that it is getting difficult to get new tapes.

They have now decided to move to DLT8000 and have bought two of them - C6378A. One is supposed to go live on the system and the other to be stored as a spare device.

Also they have got two c2363b cables. They are rather long, but they should work.

As far as I can see in the "Communicator e3000 MPE/iX Release 7.5 (Software Release C75.00)" this should be ok.

I have connected one of the DLT's to the "Ultra Wide SCSI" interface with path 0/0/1/0.

When I run the ODE/Mapper2 the DLT is not recognized.

I have tried to change between the two DLT's and the two cables. It does not change anything.

I have tried to cheat it by adding the device in ioconfig by adding first the path 0/0/1/0.2 and then the device with this command: ad 8;path=0/0/1/0.2.0;ID=dlt;mode=autoreply

In that case I get the following error:

Configuration of the device in low-level I/O failed (IOCONFIG 1)

Any ideas?
