But even the names stopped after Cheetah. After that you had D-MIT and a
few others up to Q-MIT the Quality MIT (it just happened to have the most
deltas and patches of any MIT.) Then you had T-MIT and U-MIT with Ua-MIT,
UB-MIT (u be sorry MIT (LAN and TurboIMAGE)), UB-Delta1, UB-Delta2. . . and
finally the V-MIT series, which closed out the classic architecture.

Then we restarted at 1 with MPE/XL.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

I distinctly remember a promise made at the 1986 Detroit Interex
conference Management Roundabout that MPE/XL version numbering would be
clear and straightforward (both numerically and logically). They did OK
up though 1.1 or so.

How about a CI function that knows how to translate the version numbers
printed in the signon banner into the version number that the system
manager ordered from the RC? Alternately, I suggest that in the future,
since the numbers don't really mean anything, names be used instead. Say,
something like Athena, Bruno, Cheetah...
