There are really two issues here, the "print spooler" (or JetDirect
replacement) and the printer.

In order to use MPE/iX's network spooler, the printer MUST understand some
basic PCL. There is no way around this. Even if the printer understands PCL,
it may not understand PJL, but that is OK since there is the
"pjl_enabled=false" directive for npconfig. So, non-PCL printer implies the
need for third party software.

MPE/iX's network spooler will, however, work with many third party "print
servers" (assuming PCL-aware printers are attached) if you use the
"snmp_enabled=false" directive. You may also need the "TCP_port_number=n"
directive if the print server can support multiple printers.
