Hello again - I'm the originator of this thread and I'm a little confused.

Steve (see below) thinks it is possible.
Paul (see earlier thread) doesn't.
HP doesn't think it is possible either.
Tracey suggests that there might be a boot up problem.

To repeat. I'm using private volume sets to support Mirror/ix
but I accept that any accounts/groups left on the System volume
set simply aren't protected (unless I go down the Model
10/20 disk array route).

It's not my intension to ever boot up the system with the PVSs
turn offline.

I think I will stick with the official HP response but just make my
archiving of spoolfiles (which then puts the spoolfiles onto
the Private volume sets) a bit more agressive.

Many thanks for this thread.

HP requires that the OUT group (where output spoolfiles reside) of the
HPSPOOL account reside on the system volume set to be supported. However,
if the OUT group resides on a user volume then spooling should work fine as
long as the volume set is mounted. As Bill pointed out, if protection of
the system volume set is important to you then the Model 10 and Model 20
disk array provides great protection.
