Yes, there is a way to exclude all posts to the list that have "OT:" in the
subject.  And the people in these discussions have done a pretty good job
of making sure they add that.  So you should be able to avoid them by changing
your subscription profile to eliminate those posts  Just follow the link at
the bottom of any of these messages, enter your e-mail address, go down to
"Topics:" and uncheck "Ot" (you could do others, but I don't think any of
them are ever used).  It will send you a confirmation and you reply to that.
Alternately, you can log in using a password and change it in "real-time."

Personally, I'd like to see the list of topics modified to reflect the way
the list is currently used.  The only other topic I've EVER seen is
"Administrivia".  All actual on-topic posts are created with generic subjects,
which is fine, since there are so few of them.  Perhaps we could have such
off-topic "topics" as (Pol)itical, (Hum)or, and some sort of generic off-topic
"topics."
