<<>BTW, there's one downside to the upgrade (say what?) that hasn't been
>mentioned: Netscape Navigator's "Use Exchange Client for Mail and News"
option appears to be hard-wired to the original Win95 Exchange software
or location, so it stops working after the update. There may be a
registry entry for Navigator to control this; I haven't checked.

Steve: The client for Mail and News is a *different* client altogether.
It bolts on to Exchange, and Navigator will run this software. It does
not use Exchange .PAB, etc files - it has its own address book and
folders. In other words, it ain't Exchange/Windows Messaging. It's
meant for use on the internet only - has no MS Mail or any other mail
system capabilities - SMTP only.>>

Huh? I'm confused-we're talking about the "Windows Messaging" software
update, available from MS's Web site at the URL Denys mentioned, that
replaces the "Microsoft Exchange" EMail client that comes on the Windows
95 CD. IMN is, as you mention, something completely different (though it
doesn't "bolt on" to Exchange; it's actually a new component of the
Windows 95/NT Explorer shell), and is 'Net only. But the "Windows
Messaging" replacement is very definitely an MSMail client, as well as
CISMail, POP3, MSN, and FAX.

<<That explains why it dosen't work - the wording in Navigator is a bit
vague. It's not Exchange they're looking for, but MS Internet Mail and
News, which is freely downloadable from MS' site. Do not expect
integration between the two, though. It ain't happening in the short
term.>>

I don't think so. I have the "Use Exchange Client for Mail and News"
button checked in Navigator. Before the Exchange-to-Messaging switch,
clicking on a "mailto:" link in Navigator or replying to a newsgroup
article in the Navigator news reader would bring up the Windows 95
Exchange client to create the outgoing EMail. After the switch,
Navigator's built-in "Netscape Mail" window is what shows up.

It seems pretty clear that we're not talking about the same thing.

<<(I use both, by the way - Windows Messaging...and I did upgrade to
Messaging from Exchange using the method I described in an earlier
post... and Internet Mail and News. Messaging for Company E-Mail, and
IMN for my personal ISP provided mailbox. You can have both on the
system, but only one can be "primary" or default when it comes to a web
browser).>>

I try IMN periodically, but always go back to Forte's Agent software; IMN
just isn't there yet.

I haven't talked much about Win95 on this list, so my background in it is
probably not well known. I've been using Windows 95 since December 1993,
have been writing Windows applications since 1988, am one of the original
(and current) Microsoft "Support MVP ("Most Valuable Professional")
selectees for Windows-development support activities, and currently make
my living writing 32-bit Windows 95/NT software. Not boasting-just some
info so people will have a frame of reference when I post something
related to Windows. Which certainly doesn't mean that I'm all-knowing
when it comes to Windows and Windows applications; just that if (when?) I
post erroneous information, it's a *really* stupid mistake, because I
really ought to know better.
