Item Subject: Data transfer 3000 -> 9000 via DAT
If you are on MPE/iX 4.5 or later, you can use tar. Did you try that?
Too bad the two systems are not on the same network, or ftp would
work.

Does anyone have any experience transfering data from a 3000 to a 900 via DAT?
I have done so using fcopy and the dd commands, but at one record per block.
Which was Ok when I had a small file, but I have a 2,000,000 record file to
transfer now, and the dd command looks like it will take a couple of days to
read the DAT, literally. The commands I use are:
FILE TP;DEV=TAPE;REC=-58,1,F,ASCII
FCOPY FROM=FILENAME;TO=*TP
dd if=/dev/rmt/dat of=filename cbs=58 conv=unblock
When I try and use the obs, ibs, bs paramaters on the the dd command the record
lengths on the 9000 don't come out right. There is not a direct network
connection between the 3000 & 9000. I can download to my PC from the 3000,
switch my network cable, and then upload to the 9000, but it is a pain.
First I need to free 100+ MB disc space on my PC, and then hope that
the network connection doesn't drop, which it did today half way through the
transfer from the HP 3000 to my PC.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.
