Brice,
I think Senator McCain would create a disaster in his candidacy if he
where to pick Lieberman for his VP choice! My feeling on this is
that a good 15 - 20% of the Republican base would dessert him over a
selection of this nature and either not vote or vote for an alternate
candidate. A choice of Lieberman would strengthen Bob Barr's
candidacy for President and significantly reduce the intensity of
support for McCain. That is what concerns me. Many people would
continue to vote for McCain, but the intensity of their support would
wane and they wouldn't work as hard. Winning these elections is
about that intensity, without it a candidate can't win and McCain
himself has already done enough to diminish his likely supporters
enthusiasm.

I think that choosing Tom Ridge would be less of an impact but would
still affect the intensity of support. It would cripple McCain's
abilities to get folks to work on the critically important steps of
getting out his voters. The volunteer base just wouldn't be there.

McCain needs someone to reassure his base.
Thanks,
Jeff Kubler
