Kelly Computer Systems used to have RAMDISC/XL, which was part of a
software/hardware (memory board) package they sold. I'm not sure what
the current status of that offering is.

However, <PLUG>, a subset of that functionality is available in the
System Manager's Toolbox from Lund Performance Solutions, in the
program called KLONDIKE. With KLONDIKE, you can say:

   freeze SALES23.PUB.FOO

which would bring the entire dataset into memory, and freeze it.

(More info at: http://www.allegro.com/toolboxes.html)

The Kelly program allowed you to bring in selected ranges of the
dataset (as well as the whole dataset).

Finally, if you use KLONDIKE to freeze a file into memory, the freeze
will be forgotten some number of minutes after the last person stops using
the file ... which shouldn't be a problem in your situation. The Kelly
product avoids that problem, keeping the file (or subset) frozen as long
as you wish.

Allegro Consultants wrote both products, and (in theory) have a small
financial interest in them.

</PLUG>
