I took up snow skiing in my 20s to enjoy winter. But that is mark of a Nordic hertiage Wisconsin girl who would give anything to go home again to clear, crisp winters and bright blue winter skys. I say we stage a cross country ski party and enjoy our wool sweaters and long johns. (My kids think I am crazy....:-)) )

When I lived in Alaska, the winters would get so cold the air would
freeze and you had to chip your way through with an icepick to get
the mail.

Other times it was so cold your breath would freeze and fall to the
ground with the sound of a fine tinkling of ice crystals.

Dogs would relieve themselves on a fire hydrant and freeze there until
they thawed out in the spring.

All of this is true - in my mind....
