Has anyone heard of a tax on bullets?"

When Obama was a senator, he proposed increasing the Federal Excise tax by
500%. This proposal did not go anywhere. This link to a forum shows the
effect of such a tax increase
http://www.precisionhuntingandfishing.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=6869.
The example in the article shows a tax of $4.39 going to $21.95 which would
increase the cost of a $39.97 box of premium rifle ammunition from $44.36 to
$61.92.

As far as I know, no one has reintroduced any legislation like this
recently. Therefore, this panic is in reaction to something that "might
happen someday". This same type of "logic" was used immediately after the
election to get people to buy a lot of guns because Obama was going to stop
gun sales.

Well guess what, we can still buy guns and I have not heard of any new
attempts to curtail that. I'm thinking that if anyone wants to impose a
500% excise tax on ammunition it will be done in a democratic way. This of
course means that someone who is still a congressman or senator will have to
propose it first. If someone does propose it, I believe it will make the
news. Since none of that has happened recently, I will assume that it will
not happen soon.
