since predictive does not look at the log of errors to the drive is there a
utility similar to the cs80util for older discs to dump lot drive error log.
I know that I many years ago I would look at this log daily.

if users would dump and clear this log and the use a fresh tape for backup
and then printed the logfile after then could for many situations know that
the backup was good.

I do remember a horror story a few decades ago when the 7970 drive was the
only drive on a hp3000. a story was circulated by the hp CE's that a user
had a capstan motor (which was engineered to be constant) which fluctuated
in speed. this allowed the read after write to sense that the tape was good
but when mounted for restore the tape was unreadable.

is the ability to read these logfiles from the device part of the diagutil
which hp has logged up?
