What can MPE "See" in internal to an N-Class?

There are different answers depending upon the level of compatibility you're looking for.

For MPE, with the Large Disk patches you can safely access up to 512 GB per disk; for LDEV 1 7.5 allows you to access space > 4GB.

Now then there is the physical interconnect. Most LP parallel SCSI disks (not SAS) ought to be able to be connected. Recall though that MPE software and N-Class hardware limits you to Ultra2 speeds (80Mbtye/sec).

However even if you CAN hook it up it might not be a good idea -- putting larger than expected disks could have unexpected power or thermal fallout. So if you can get specifications make sure that you aren't going above the power draw for the hottest drive certified for use with N-Class.

IIRC Dan's A6727A GB is larger than I ever tested in the CSY Lab for N-Class internal, but there is significant evidence for HP-UX that those devices were tested inside N-Class so I would say that they are likely safe, no implied warrantee.

I do find some less definitive references to N/A-Class support for 146 GB:

146GB HP PN: A7505A / AB426A:
ST3146707LC ST3146807LC MAP3147NC MAT3147NC

And more 73GB:
73GB HP PN: AB425A, A9762A, A9759A, A6727A, A6803A, A6804A
ST373454LC ST373453LC MAS3735NC MAU3073NC
ST373405LC ATLAS10K3_73_SCA MAN3735MC ST373307LC

Of course HP firmware should be installed in any of these.

Jim

P.S. If one is an ex-expert does that make one a pert?

I've got two ST3146855LC drives in an N-class 3000 with 7.5 installed.
The ST3146855 is a 146Gb drive at 15,000 rpm. Purchased through CDW.
