Bit I forgot in other mail was that we also have a mix of printers doing
invoices etc, and we have a config file for each site's printers:

Ldev NO: 123 Type: Y (where 0=vanilla impact, 1=HP impact, Y=Laser type)

Difficult to make print program non-specific to printer if you want to do
anything other than plain text, or you invent a meta language for the upper
levels and massage into specific printer codes down lower.

Unfortunately, we don't know what the printer will be. More than likely it
will a laser printer or an impact printer. We would prefer the program not
to be printer specific if possible. Any samples would be helpful in guiding
us to the best approach.

Steve,
This can be done, but you need to determine first what kind of printer you
will be using to print the bar code. Once you know that, you next to figure
what sort of data the printer requires. Once you know that, you can start
with your programming. I've written several COBOL programs to drive both
thermal transfer and LaserJet printers, but I had to know what kind of
printer the program was driving, and what the printer was expecting.
