This is a great thread. I'm enjoying reading each and every post,
especially since many of the authors present them in a story telling way.
I'm not sure whether they are success stories or horror stories. I suppose
it depends on your point of view, but eitherway I can't match them.

I've been invloved whith the HP3000 since '89 (yeah, yeah, but it seems
longer to me) and all I can say is, I consider the entire 8 years an
on-going success story. Platform related downs can be counted on one hand
and I'm sure some of those could have been avoided. Data loss due to system
failure has been zero (well not counting the very early days of KSAMXL
perhaps). It's prooven to be a forgiving, reliable and resiliant piece of
equipment and I truly believe mass-produced products with these qualities
are indeed very rare. (well not counting those yellow, shockproof,
waterproof, solar powered, floating personal stereos ;)

Now considering the damage some of these computer rooms have suffered over
the years (floods, lightening, earthquakes, flash fires, you name it) there
must be a number of photographs taken for the various insurance claims. It
would be great if someone could scan and host some of these photos,
somewhere on the net. It would of course be even greater if they trickled
through into some sort of advertising campaign. I won't be tempted into
drawing up some advertizing scenario (I just deleted two lines :) but I'm
sure advertizing people could have a field day with them.
