Every time you do a restore you need to do the create and should do the
olddate options.
If you do not do the create, all of the files may not be restored. IMHO this
is a bug in the MPE/iX
file system that allows one to purge a user and have files that user created
left on the system.

While I am in rant mode does anyone else find it inconsistent that ALTFILE
requires the owner parameter to change the creator of the file?

The directory option can be specified from a previous backup that had the
directory stored to it. It can also be recreated using the BULDJOB1 job from
BULDACCT. BE VERY CAREFULL BECAUSE THIS WILL PUT THE DIRECTORY AND PASSWORDS
BACK TO THE STATE FROM THE TAPE!

In the worst case you can assign new passwords (usually not a bad idea any
way) and rebuild the capabilities manually. Use BULDACCT to get a BULDJOB1
file. The use editor to mass change the
capabilities as required.
