Hmmm... I'll try this. I didn't notice it when I was trying to get this
stuff working the last time through.

True; I noticed the same thing.
 
 I think there
>is an ATTACHIO mode that will actually write past a read though.
 
There is, but it aborts the read and throws away any accumulated data. I'm
not sure this is the desired result.
