Greg,
the 9x8 and 9x9 systems have very different I/O paths due
to very different internal bus structures. So you cannot use
the 9x8 sysgen config to install a 9x9 successfully.
What typically happens is that you get a bunch of errors
during bootup and then MPE "figures out" reasonable settings
for LDEV 1, LDEV 7 and LDEV 20 based on the PDC boot paths.
But these are only used "on the fly", not to change CONFIG.
You should use SYSGEN to create a new config based on one
of the default groups (might need to restore from one of your
backup media). For 9x9 systems, CONFG9X9.SYS sounds like a
good starting point. You need to customize it and keep either
as CONFIG.SYS or some CONFNEW test group (if you prefer the
START GROUP=CONFNEW for a first test).
Lars.
