I'm certainly NOT a CORBA expert (or even close).
I had one class (NOT hands-on) late last year on distributing
computing, which focused on CORBA. The feeling there was that
it was "safer" to stick to one ORB.
However, I'll be in a hands-on class next week on Java + CORBA.

One of the promises from that web page is
The Object Management Group's CORBA 2.2 specification
(and soon 3.0) has a more finely defined ORB in which
portability takes a high priority. The Java programming
language was designed with portability in mind. These two
terrific technologies, when used correctly, will enable you
to create distributed systems that are ORB neutral.
No longer will you have to ask "Which ORB are you using?"
So yes, it is MORE than possible to have two ORBs that do not
work together.
