Several people have already replied to this question with several good
solutions, and interestingly enough, I read
most of these responses yesterday, and today I finally get to read the question.

Anyway, I'm one who likes to bring up the technicalities, and in this case I
think the answers actually missed
the question. The question was how to not get slashes in the subfile. And I
think the answer is that regardless
of the data type, the slashes are not "IN" the subfile. QUIZ is just putting
the slash in when it formats the data
if you request to print it, but the slash is not actually in the data.
