Even a well-known President of a well-known country (in the state of
a well-known and gentle member of this list) likes to flip burgers :-)

Ahem... I have always said, in public, that I admire Bill Gates
and his wonderful leadership. I just have had, since childhood,
a strong propensity to do things that go against the flow. When
I moved my family and my company from Guatemala 13 years ago, I
had the choice of moving anywhere. The obvious place was Silicon
Valley but, of course, I moved to a small mountain town. Not
even that, but I didn't even move to the "town" part: I moved to
a small farm surrounded by thousands of acres of national forest.
So, I use Macs (tons of them) just because they allow me to play
Devil's advocate with my friends. The fact that I don't have
the time or the inclination to spend ANY time baby-sitting my
computer infrastructure is another matter, of course :-)

Very nice! I flipped when I read your clever comment.
Ironically, though, that would be overkill. My trusty hp3000 918 LX
runs at 32MHz, has 128MB of memory, and 9 GB of disc. Even my
portable Mac PowerBook runs at hundreds of MHz, has 1 GB of memory,
and has 90 GB of disk (30 built-in and 60 in cigarrette-pack-size
FireWire disks). Mind you, this is a very small Mac. Just imagine
what can be accomplished with a truly BIG Mac :-)
Your idea of running MPE/Image on a "big Mac" (or a "big Wintel
machine", for that matter) sounds intriguing and made me hungry.
I believe that the footprint of MPE/Image is much smaller
than the footprint of the Mac OS. Nevertheless, with enough
hardware scalability, good-old MPE/Image can support many thousands
of concurrent users. For a specific example, please have a look at
http://www.adager.com/SuccessStories1.html
I wonder how many more concurrent users MPE/Image could support
if fed a healthy diet of big Macs (or big Wintel machines, or big
"anythings" for that matter) instead of starving to death :-(
Now, would you also like to fry the competition with that order
of MPE/Image?

There is no reason to weep. There are all kinds of reasons to
laugh.
