While I have no experience with Resource Sharing myself, I believe there
is also some DOS-TO-MPE command or utility somewhere that might be useful.
But I do not know if it requires the Resource Sharing server to be up and
running (and thus would need Samba/iX stopped).

Another option (at least before enabling the Samba/iX server) might be to
try the SMBCLIENT program to connect to the Resource Sharing server and
GET files (from the 3k to the 3k) or even use the TAR option of SMBCLIENT
to get a whole (sub)tree of files to a regular tar file that can then be
un-tar-ed to whatever HFS directory is desired for later Samba serving.
