Adam responded thusly,

To which I reply, "Yes, those vets."

In a classic maneuver by the Left, one calls into question the integrity
of the purveyor of the message rather than refute said message.
However, here the Left runs into big time trouble.

How do we discredit 250+ veterans, many of them decorated without
seeming to do so?

Well, let's distort their statements and then call them fabricators.
Then we talk about how they get their funding. Then we tie them to the
Republican Party and Texas.

I trust you read the entire article on the Foxnews web site. Notice at
the bottom where it discusses the money poured into the Democratic Party
and MoveOn.org by George Soros and Peter Lewis, who have poured in at
least $12 million each. Somehow that makes the $100,000 from Bob Perry
pale in comparison, don't you think?

First off, the piece in disinfopedia is itself a piece of
disinformation. There are at least 3 glaring mistakes.

The first one is that if you watch the commercial closely, you will
notice that none of the veterans claims to have served on the same boat
as John Kerry. They simply say they have served WITH John Kerry. They
are responding to the ad featuring John Edwards urging people to talk
with the folks who served WITH John Kerry in order to find out about
John Kerry. In the background, they show a picture of John Kerry
surrounded by a bunch of other sailors. 12 of those in the picture are
calling John Kerry's service into question. Only one of those in the
picture supports Kerry.

The second mistake is where disinfopedia claims that John Kerry made his
entire military record available for review. This is incorrect. Whilst
his web site does have PDF files of the certificates for his medals, it
does not have the recommendations documents for the medals. (In
particular, it does not show who recommended him for the Purple Hearts,
especially the first one, since we know his CO refused to sign it.). It
also does not have the combat record for the event in which he
supposedly qualified for his first Purple Heart. Please note that he
was not in command of a Swift boat during that incident.

The third piece of disinformation at disinfopedia.com is the bit about
one of the vets recanting his story and deploring the fact he signed an
affidavit. The story appeared in the Boston Globe yesterday, written by
Mike Kranish. You can find it at the Boston Globe web site. The only
problem with the story is that it isn't true. Come to find out that
Mike Kranish, a "reporter" for the Boston Globe is also the author of a
biography of John Kerry. In his book, he recounts the exact incident
that he now says George Elliott is sorry he brought up. Further, George
Elliott put out a statement yesterday to the effect the interview was
bunk. In his words:

"Captain George Elliott describes an article appearing in today's
edition of the BOSTON GLOBE by Mike Kranish as extremely inaccurate and
highly misstating his actual views. He reaffirms his statement in the
current advertisement paid for by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth,
Captain Elliott reaffirms his affidavit in support of that
advertisement, and he reaffirms his request that the ad be played."

Mike Kranish has also written the yet-to-be-released official campaign
book for Kerry-Edwards. That book was cancelled late yesterday
afternoon when this whole story came out. It seems somebody thought
there might be a semblance of conflict of interest with respect to Mike
Kranish writing articles "denouncing" people who are attacking John
Kerry, the subject of his biography and the candidate in the campaign
handbook he is writing.

As for tying veterans to the Republican Party, that is not difficult as
a clear majority of veterans and currently serving military personnel
vote Republican. That is a well-known fact; felons vote Democrat, the
military votes Republican. :-)

You might remember that during the 2000 elections, the Democratic Party,
led by Al (count every vote) Gore managed to disenfranchise thousands of
active duty personnel on the flimsiest of excuses. They went to court
to force Florida election officials to dump thousands of military votes
because they knew a big majority of these votes would go to President
Bush. Doesn't that make you proud?

>> Oh, and if you think this ad is unjustified, just remember these
>> veterans are responding to John Edwards' ad which uses their pictures
>> without their approval.

>I don't know if it is or is not justified, but John McCain (a
>Republican, last time I checked) seems to have a pretty strong opinion
>on the matter.

Last time I checked John McCain was not God or King. McCain is a
Senator from Arizona. He can have any opinion he wants. It doesn't
mean that everyone has to do what he says or wishes.

As I said, I am not quite ready to accept what swiftvets.com states as
gospel. I am looking forward to the book and I am reading everything I
can find about this group. Unlike people who took Fahrenheit 911 as the
absolute truth coming from a known propagandist, I do my homework when
faced with this situation.

But it is interesting to see the utter panic that has now gripped the
DNC and the Kerry-Edwards campaign. And the Kerry-Edwards web site is
NOT helping their cause.
