I have a HP 520 All-In-One and if I do not have the printer on and plugged
into my PC the software goes into some kind of tight loop and brings my
450MHZ machine to its knees. So what I do is if I do not want to turn on the
printer or there is some other problem, i.e. little red mark on icon of
printer. I right click and close the software.

James

Geez, what do your system resources look like, about 50/60%?
About all you really need out of that list are;
explorer
systray
vshwin32
I suggest you kill the rest and see if it helps.
