We've installed them on one of our systems, and we use the HPC1520B
driver also...works fine. We've recently run into a situation where
one of the drive models (we purchased from two different vendors) does
not appear to support our backup software's ability to store itself and
the system directories to the front of the tape, then reposition the
tape to begin writing the backup data. This looks like it might simply
be a firmware update issue which we're pursuing with the vendor.
Otherwise, all the drives operate as advertised.

BTW, we're still running release 5.0, PowerPatch 6 (C.50.06).

Subject: [HP3000-L] DLT 4000 support

I've installed MPE-iX 5.5 on our system and the accompanying power patch
#1. In the documentation that I received with the power patch it states
that the single-ended DLT 4000 drive is now supported. After the
installation I checked in the "iodfault.pub.sys" file and it does have
an entry for the DLT4000. After configuring an LDEV and connecting a DLT
4000 drive I tried a simple store to the drive and got an error stating
the media was bad. I've tried this drive and media on other systems
without error. If I instead configure the DLT as an "HPC1520b" I can
store files to the drive no problems.

Has anyone out there tried this patch and/or been able to use a DLT
drive on an HP3000 system.
