NOBODY is defending Saddam. I for one, would be quite glad to see a war
happen if he were the only casualty. Life is not that simple though. We
will kill thousands and thousands of Iraqis by invading Iraq. We will kill
far more Iraqis than Saddam has been able to kill to date with all his past
and present WMDs. Why will we be doing all of this killing? That is the
crux of the argument against this war. The 'cost' of the war in human lives
will most likely far far out-weighed by the 'benefit' of getting rid of
Saddam. Of course the 'cost' will be borne by average Iraqi men, women, and
children and the US / British taxpayer. But we pay in Dollars. The Iraqis
pay in lives. There will also be no end of long term costs in goodwill
throughout the Islamic world and the world in general.
