Our DTC48s work fine on 5.5.

The issue that may be involved here is that certain older DTCs may lack the
required memory to support some of the newer software functionality.  A
hardward upgrade is available.

I don't remember having to upgrade our DTCs before going to 5.5.  I think I
did that here prior to going to 5.0.  In any case, I believe the issue
was documented in the relevant Communicator.
