I have received some off list encouragement to both pursue this, and to post
what I've learned. I trust that there is no indiscretion in posting to the
list traffic from ESC, and that someone will straighten me out if there is.
Also, I had thought I should save bandwidth by NOT posting the variables,
and was working with the premise that those who were interested in using
them would just try it and see, but since they could be of more general
interest, have included them at bottom.

Here is the traffic, oldest first, with minor elision, from ESC, with the
