Jeff is now asking me to CHOOSE! What, I can't have all the ice cream???
 
Well, much as I would like it all RIGHT NOW, I think in the long run
I/(we all?) would be much better off to have the intrinsic (+ access
via the CI) first.
 
Let the OS vendor provide the tools. Let the user paste the tools together
for their unique needs.
 
This gives EVERYONE the opportunity to grab
information in whatever format/environment they need for whatever
purpose they have - whether it be via COBOL, FORTRAN, PASCAL, or the
CI.
