A minor nit - I too remembere something strange about AOPTIONS, but in this
case, mode 2 is almost the oppostie of AOPTIONS (12:4)=0101. The AOPTIONS do
allow an FUPDATE ( the only AOPTIONS which do!), while mode 2 specifically
inhibits this operation!
