OK, here's my reason for wanting the command line interface:
For years now on the 3K, I've been using Programmer Studio, using the power of the PC to edit and compile, and much more.
It's a multiplatform IDE, and I can dev in Java, C, Fortran, Cobol, Perl, PHP, and the list goes on, a single project could be using many different languages on many different platforms.
If I go with AcuCobol, I'd like to continue using Programmer Studio.

If I want to Migrate COBOL/VIEW/IMAGE applications to HPUX, and I decide on AcuCobol, do I really need AcuBench?
I think it would help, it is not REQUIRED, but I don't know what I would do with out it. You can then use the power of the PC to compile... yes, compile, and edit.
I can compile 500 programs in oh about 10 minute max.
You will also need the AcuConnect thin client, even though you will be compiling on the PC, the object is placed on the HP-UX box.
Can I use vi to edit COBOL source, and my own shell scripts to compile and link?
You could, but I prefer AcuBench.
In other words, Does the AcuCobol compiler have a command-line interface?
I did look on the AcuCorp website, and didn't find the answer.
It does have a command-line interface, I don't use it.
