I do the same thing, but I've wondered why this doesn't work. I'm no mail
expert, but I think it's because messages from hp3000-L are formatted to
show the original poster as sender, not the mailing list. When you reply
to a post, your reply automatically goes to the poster, not the list -- at
least our Notes mail clients do this -- so you must either Reply All and
send duplicate messages to the list and to the poster, or cut and paste to
send only to the list. It's convenient for private replies, but most of my
replies go to the list, so it's a bit of a pain to have to cut and paste to
avoid duplication.
Robelle-L (Robelle Consulting Ltd's mailing list) works the opposite way --
i.e., the sender is the Listserv, even though the post came from an
individual -- so, replies are addressed to the list by default. Perhaps,
this is a Listserv-configurable feature.
Jeff K. -- can you shed light on this? Am I close?

Subject: [HP3000-L] OT : Apologies for "Out of Office" emails
Hi List,
I unreservedly apologies for any "Out of Office" emails people on HP3000-L
have
received whilst I was away on holiday in Devon to watch the eclipse. I
assure
you I did put the HP3000-L "from" address in my send-no-emails list but it
looks
like Notes quite happily ignored this and sent out-of-office emails anyway.
Extremely sorry.
Mark Wilkinson.
SPE.
PS. <rant> Are there *any* satisfied Notes users out there? I once tried to
develop an application in Notes and gave up after wasting 5 days fighting
with
the product. </rant>
