One of the hitching points are jobs/session on the network.



I got fairly consistent clean shutdowns by: stop all jobs, nscontrol stop, netcontrol stop;net=lan1, netcontrol stop.  (lan1 repalced with whatever your main IP uses)



Then again, most everything I do uses the network.

I seem to recall MPE 5.5 would hang on SHUT 4 for a long time.  It was okay to power off then, but one would expect the volume set recovery step of START to take a little longer.  It was worth it to wait for SHUT 6 if possible.
