Assuming you're talking ICMP redirects, these are 'strongly advised' to
be disabled on routers these days.  The HP3000 is very weak with regard
to gateways (which is what we're really talking about anyway).

You don't need a full-blown routed port, but gated might help (and
probably a pain since it is low-level in the TCP stack).
